When I was a teenager, I used to sit in front of the radio. Whenever a song came on, I would run to my house to grab a blank cassette tape, put it in, record the song, and cross my fingers that the DJ wouldn’t ruin my mixtape by talking over it.
I was always obsessed with Spanish-language rock. I was excited to witness all the barriers these songs were breaking down, the new voices that yearned to express themselves despite the oppressive environment surrounding us, and they inspired me to break down the barriers that I saw in my own environment.
This is a 3-episode series featuring 6 iconic songs in spaces that transform and evolve according to each story. In this series, I will be joined by colleagues from different musical genres. We will speak with my biggest musical influences…the artists behind these incredible songs. We will delve deep into the stories and origins of these legendary songs. We will recreate them, enjoy them, and understand them through their original heroes. Those who lived this story, come with me to remember it. And for those who didn’t, I want to take you by the hand to get to know a movement that changed our culture forever.
